We’re losing the defense of a big to counter another team’s big We’ve also got a really highly ranked recruit in Thweatt that can eat some fouls if we need him to.

But again, playing Emmitt and Jalen at the 4 means those guys will likely eat some of those fouls. This is really the most concerning point you made. We’re losing 5 fouls that will inevitably be on other bigs. We will just play one of them at a time, believe it or not, 95% of college basketball programs only play one traditional 5 at a time and 2 total in game.

We’re losing minutes for Culver and Gabe to rest. And those 8 points are offset by numerous possessions wasted because two guys with the same lack of range can’t get out of each other’s way. We’re losing 8 points per game on under 50% shooting inside of 2 feet. I really can’t see him hanging his teammates out to dry like this without someone toxic in his ear. Oscar has always been polite and well mannered. Seems to be more of a selfish decision than one based upon physical or mental health like I was under the impression it was. Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer.Įdit: Huggs said he’s absolutely not coming back. Interesting time to step away, wonder if Huggs said something that set him off, or an agent realized the time to strike is now considering how bad he’s been this year (which LOL if that’s the case), or if he’s just going through it. He hasn’t been with the team since the Northeastern game, which was his best game of the season. Anyone following the program likely feels the same way. I really don’t see this as much of a big deal. Really, worst case scenario is we will be sacrificing rebounding for offense. The absolute best case scenario would be the team understands and Oscar comes back, is ready to go for the tournament, and we have also played with a smaller lineup long enough to see it’s benefits and we play Culver and Oscar separately. It’s crazy to say, but we may become a more well rounded team with these losses to our bigs. This will inevitably open up our offense as we see more of Matthews and Bridges at the 4. Oscar has routinely been the third best big on the team this year. This isn’t as big of blow as it would’ve seemed in November. New to reddit? Click here!
